Bio
Cabin Project lead, Katie Sawicki, a New England native who, after touring the country for several years, now calls Portland, Ore. home. Formed in 2010, this group of friends and long-time collaborators all made their mark on Sawicki’s most recent release “the Cabin Project”. The live version of the record soon became the group itself. The Cabin Project—four members strong—incorporates layered vocals, intricate drumming, synthesized sounds, and haunting compositions that stem from a strong indie pop sensibility.
Hailed as a “Singstress, Songwriter, Lyrical Genius” (Encore Magazine), Cabin Project lead, Sawicki believes the group is a true sum of its parts. Vocalist Kristen Gass on keys and bass, hails from the music project- Sleepwalker- lending a haunting layer to the group. Adam Sweeney, on bass, vocals, and guitar, is backed by his own band-the Jamboree-when he is not contributing his folk rock roots to the Cabin Project. Zanny Geffel brings a unique percussion and drive with her stemming from years backing jazz, folk, and rock bands. Sawicki, a self-taught guitarist, vocalist and pianist, grounds the group’s vision, directing its musical momentum with narratives of love and social justice.
Onstage, this group is followed by an enthusiastic and warm crowd from Portland and around the country. Their self-titled record compels the listener to press the “repeat” button, with its complex layering, poetic lyrics, upbeat anthems and pensive ballads.

The Cabin Project reviews…
December 2010- The Oregon Music News
“For the past 10 years, singer/songwriter Katie Sawicki– a Connecticut native who made her way to Portland, OR via Brooklyn – has been making her way across the country singing her “deeply original poetic expressions” in a traditional acoustic folk/Americana style that has, until now, been her signature sound. While it was all the Boston contemporary folkies that helped shape her initial approach to songwriting, today, that signature sound has evolved into a project that Sawicki calls “Chamber Folk” or “Indie, emo-rock,” with her latest effort and fourth studio release, The Cabin Project.

February 2011
“Some of Portland’s brightest musical talents, including Kristen Gass, Kendra Carpenter, Max Voltage, Zanny Geffel and Adam Sweeney collaborated throughout 2010 to form The Cabin Project and record the album. Sawicki’s emotive vocal fluidity complements the album’s percussive, yet ambient, tone. Candid lyrics and gentle vocals top it off, evoking an idyllic experience for the listener.

Reviews of Sawicki’s previous records….
June 2008 Innocent Words By Jonathan Tuttle
“In a genre where originality has fallen by the wayside, Katie Sawicki unifies her strong vocals and equally as strong guitar-playing, with elements of folk, rock, pop and a little bluegrass thrown in as a nice touch. This singer/songwriter is not one-dimensional by any means.”
April 2008 Feminist Review By Cheryl Reeves
“The songs released on her third album, Time Spent Lost, are seductive – exquisitely so – but they’re also deeply original poetic expressions of a gutsy soul navigating an odyssey of loneliness and heartbreak.”
February 2008 Harris Radio By Pete Harris
“Katie Sawicki’s third album is a gem!”
March 2008 Music-Reviewer By Abigail Thornton
“This album is fraught with songs about loneliness and leaving loved ones, yet the lyrics are some of the most honest and heartbreaking I have ever heard.”
March 2008 Perfect Porridge By Greg Swan
“Indie-folk singer/songwriter Katie Sawicki is the girl next door crooner in the back corner of a dive bar you wish was going home with you tonight. Her new album, Time Spent Lost, is a rootsy romp through Americana. …I can picture her sitting in the back of my station wagon with a battered acoustic guitar, stringing together emotive lyrics culled from billboards and bumperstickers as we ride along the open plains.”
March 2008 Outsmart Magazine By N.F.
“Traces of Lucinda Williams seep into this finely crafted collection…”
June 2006 Boise Weekly By Jennifer Gelband
“Her voice is like that of a rugged angel. She writes songs about loneliness, about being short-changed and about hipsters…”
